BIR Emergency Imaging

The course is designed as a 2 day introduction and guide to interpretation of emergency department imaging. It is aimed at new consultants, A&E doctors, emergency nurse practitioners, ST1/2 radiology trainees, reporting radiographers and foundation doctors. The lectures will be subdivided by anatomical region. Adult and paediatric imaging will be included highlighting normal anatomy, common and uncommon patterns of injury.
By the end of the course delegates should be able to:
• Identify the radiographic appearances of a range of injuries and medical conditions presenting in the emergency setting and their management
• State the clinical indications for using radiographic imaging in the emergency department
• Apply their knowledge to interpret emergency radiographs with emphasis of review areas
• Recognise both normal and abnormal appearances of commonly preformed emergency radiographs
• Explain the management of important and common conditions presenting to the emergency department
• List the potential effects of ionising radiation and have an
increased awareness of the laws surrounding medical imaging
