Interesting Cases Session and Derrick Martin Prize

The session is one of the annual highlights of the BSGAR meeting and is usually heavily oversubscribed.  The quality of submissions and presentations has always been fantastic, and in 2027 we expect the Derrick Martin Prize to be as hotly contested as ever!

Please submit an abstract of your case as a three-slide PowerPoint presentation using the following format:

  • Slide 1: Cover slide – case title, authors and affiliations
  • Slide 2: Text slide – case synopsis and final diagnosis (250 words maximum)
  • Slide 3: Figures slide – up to 4 annotated images

The best 10 cases submitted will be invited to present at the Annual Meeting on Friday 5th February 2027 and offered publication on the BSGAR website. Accepted case authors will be asked to deliver a 4-minute presentation, in person, at the meeting in Winchester (full details will be provided after acceptance).

The Derrick Martin Prize will be awarded for the best interesting case presented by a Resident doctor or medical student. The winner will receive a prize of £200 in John Lewis vouchers. The Interesting Cases Session is also open to Consultants, but they are not eligible for the Derrick Martin Prize.

Scientific Reports and Educational Exhibit Submissions (Oral Presentations, e-Posters and Prizes)
Here is an opportunity to present your work as an ePoster at the Annual meeting. ePosters will be displayed on a number of large screens in the exhibition area of the venue. The 3 to 4 best scientific report abstract authors (resident or medical student) will also be invited to deliver a short oral presentation at the meeting.  See below for details.

Consultants and AHPs are not eligible for the prizes but are eligible for Certificates of Distinction). These might be audit and quality improvement projects, education projects, technical developments, scientific reports or educational exhibits.

  • Abstracts should be submitted as a Word document and include the Title, Authors and Institutions above the body of the abstract.
  • The body of the abstract should not exceed 250 words.  If you are submitting a scientific report, please use the following headings: Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions.
  • Accepted abstracts will be invited to present e-posters (to be displayed as several slides so details can be read clearly on screens) at the BSGAR Annual Meeting. (Full details will be provided after acceptance).
