BSGAR 2026 ‘Top 20’ and ‘Top 10’ Awards. 
The best 20 submissions by resident doctors or medical students will be awarded a recognition of achievement certificate and letter from the President. The presenting resident doctor/medical student* from the best 10 of these submissions will also receive free attendance at the Meeting Dinner on Thu 5th Feb 2026. *Non-transferrable
 
Submissions are accepted from Consultants, Resident Doctors, Medical Students and Allied Health Practitioners (AHPs), however, Consultants and AHPs are not eligible for the prizes.

Interesting Cases Session and Derrick Martin Prize
The session is one of the annual highlights of the BSGAR meeting and is usually heavily oversubscribed. The quality of submissions and presentations has always been fantastic, and in 2026 we expect the Derrick Martin Prize to be as hotly contested as ever!
 
Please submit an abstract of your case as a three-slide PowerPoint presentation using the following format:
Slide 1: Cover slide – case title, authors and affiliations
Slide 2: Text slide – case synopsis and final diagnosis (250 words maximum)
Slide 3: Figures slide – up to 4 annotated images
 
The best 10 cases submitted will be invited to present at the Annual Meeting on Friday 6th February 2026 and offered publication on the BSGAR website. Accepted case authors will be asked to deliver a 4-minute presentation, in person, at the meeting in Nottingham (full details will be provided after acceptance). 
 
The Derrick Martin Prize will be awarded for the best interesting case presented by a Resident doctor or Medical student. The winner will receive a prize of £200 in John Lewis vouchers. The Interesting Cases Session is also open to Consultants, but they are not eligible for the Derrick Martin Prize.
 
Scientific Reports and Educational Exhibit Submissions (Oral Presentations, e-Posters and Prizes) 
Here is an opportunity to present your work as an ePoster at the Annual meeting. ePosters will be displayed on a number of large screens in the exhibition area of the venue. The 3 to 4 best scientific report abstract authors will also be invited to deliver a short oral presentation at the meeting.  See below for details.
 
We will accept abstract submissions from Consultants, Resident doctors, Medical students and Allied Health Practitioners (AHPs). (NB. Consultants and AHPs are not eligible for the prizes). These might be audit and quality improvement projects, education projects, technical developments, scientific reports or educational exhibits.
Please ensure the type of submission is indicated in the brief description section of the upload form.
Abstracts should be submitted as a Word document and include the Title, Authors and Institutions above the body of the abstract.
The body of the abstract should not exceed 250 words.  If you are submitting a scientific report, please use the following headings: Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions.
Accepted abstracts will be invited to present e-posters (to be displayed as a number of slides so details can be read clearly on screens) at the BSGAR Annual Meeting. (Full details will be provided after acceptance).
The top-rated scientific/audit/QIP submissions, scored by a BSGAR subcommittee, will be invited to present their scientific report as an oral presentation at the Annual Meeting in Nottingham on  Friday 6th February 2026. (Full details will be provided after acceptance). 
The top-rated educational exhibit submissions will be presented as ePoster exhibits.
 
The Clive Bartram Prize will be awarded to the best scientific report by a Resident doctor or Medical student. The winner will receive a prize of £200 in John Lewis vouchers.
The Maria Sheridan Prize will be awarded to the best educational exhibit presented by a Resident doctor or Medical student.  The winner will receive a prize of £200 in John Lewis vouchers.
 
Deadline, Conference Attendance and Notification of Success
The deadline for entry is 23:59hrs on Sunday 7th December. Late submissions or submissions published elsewhere will not be considered. Notification of results will be issued prior to Christmas.  Successful authors will be emailed individually and asked to resubmit their final work prior to the annual meeting. Please note that successful applicants (or a co-author) must register for the meeting otherwise their submission will be withdrawn. All successful applicants will be eligible for an early bird registration fee.  Codes will be awarded if the registration is made after the early bird deadline. Society Membership is not a pre-requisite for submission or acceptance so please forward this advert to colleagues and trainees.
